AOBFP Begins Transition to Electronic Testing

The American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians has announced that the transition to electronic testing for the certification exam began with the Spring 2010 cognitive assessment portion of the certification examination, and as administered at several regional test sites. The practical performance evaluation portion of the examination will continue to be offered at the convention sites during the Spring American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and Fall American Osteopathic Association conventions.

portion of the recertification examination and was administered at several regional test sites. The practical performance evaluation portion of the examination will continue to be offered at the convention sites in the spring and fall.

Certificate of added qualification exams will continue to be administered in a written format.

CMS Expands Eligibility Criteria for Primary Care Bonus

As part of the 2011 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has modified the eligibility criteria for the primary care bonus established by the Affordable Care Act. The changes ensure that a larger percentage of family physicians and general internists will qualify for the bonus.

Under the revised criteria, CMS will limit the eligibility denominator to Medicare Fee Schedule allowed charges, and will subtract hospital visits from the denominator. With these changes, CMS estimates that 80 percent of family physicians and 60 percent of general internists will qualify for the 10 percent bonus payment.
