Dr. Morris Leads POFPS Board of Trustees Meeting

Dr. MorrisPOFPS President Harry J. Morris, D.O., presided over the society’s board of trustees meeting on August 8, 2015, at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

At the meeting, Kevin V. de Regnier, D.O., president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), and Carol L. Henwood, D.O., immediate past president of the ACOFP, reported on recent activities at the national level. ACOFP resident governor Hilary S. Haack, D.O., and ACOFP student governor Seth H. Carter, OMS-III, also reported on initiatives at the student and resident levels.

The board reviewed the six-month financial statements, and reports that the society is financially sound. The membership committee is looking into ways to enhance membership communication and engagement. The CME symposium committee reported that this year’s program was very successful, with great attendance and superb education.

The board also received activity updates from the student association chapters of the ACOFP. SAACOFP chapter vice president Steven Houston, OMS-II, represented the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, and SAACOFP chapter president Amanda Stahl, OMS-II, represented the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

It was also reported that the POFPS was recently approved by the American Osteopathic Association as an accredited Category 1 CME sponsor.

The board voted to fill the Pennsylvania trustee vacancy. Christine M. Rohanna, D.O., a family physician in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania, was elected with a term ending in 2018.

As members of the POFPS mentor program, 14 osteopathic medical students from Pennsylvania were invited to attend the POFPS CME symposium. The students enjoyed the experience of attending the board meeting, educational lectures and a networking reception.

The POFPS board of trustees would like to give special thanks to NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company for hosting a luncheon on Saturday for the POFPS, POMA and POMA Foundation boards, as well as past presidents.


Dr. Rohanna Elected to POFPS Board

Dr. RohannaChristine M. Rohanna, D.O., was recently elected to fill the Pennsylvania trustee vacancy on the POFPS Board of Trustees. Her term ends in 2018.

Board certified in family medicine, she is medical director of the Student Health Center at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania, and a physician at St. Benedict Rural Health Center in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania

A 2008 graduate of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Rohanna completed an internship and family medicine residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the American College Health Association.


POFPS 40th Annual CME Symposium a Great Success!

Once again, the POFPS symposium was a huge success! The POFPS 40th Annual CME Symposium, held August 7-9, 2015, at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania, drew over 360 registered physicians to the meeting.

A total of 20 Category 1A AOA CME credits were available to physicians who attended all of the lectures. Speaker handouts from the symposium will remain on the POFPS CME Symposium page of the POMA website until November 30, 2015.

Symposium program chair Richard A. Ortoski, D.O., and education program chair Deanne S. Endy, D.O., are to be commended for a job well done! The success of this year’s program was a result of their hard work and incredible effort.


Child Abuse Regulations Session Wrap-up

The “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect in Pennsylvania” lecture at the POFPS 40th Annual CME Symposium satisfied the Act 31 training requirements for all persons applying for license renewal for the November 1, 2014, through October 31, 2016, Pennsylvania osteopathic physician licensure cycle.

All attendees who properly followed the sign-in procedures will receive a certificate of completion from the course provider. This certificate will be mailed with your POFPS Symposium CME certificate. The course provider will also submit attendee information to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

If you missed the lecture, mark your calendar to attend the POMA 108th Annual Clinical Assembly, May 4-7, 2016, in King of Prussia. A two-hour lecture is being scheduled for this program.
