District 4 Recap - August 29, 2018

District 4 August meeting

What are the best ways to help manage lipids to help prevent a future cardiovascular event? What treatments are available and what are their side effects? On Wednesday, August 29th District 4 met at Ruth Chris Steakhouse in Wilkes Barre, PA to discuss what they have been seeing in the practice.

Frank Romascavage, DO, began with an energetic lecture on the effects of using Pure EPA to combat cholesterol issues.  The group discussed several case studies, trials, and specifically the inflammatory markers to keep an eye on. Side effects are a factor in any treatment plan, and it was emphasized that what works for one may not be right for another.

Darlene Dunay, DO, followed up with several personal accounts of practices and treatment plans. Meeting attendees chimed in with their own thoughts and ideas on how they might consider treating people in certain cases.

Dr. Dunay finished by updating the group on POMA and some of the upcoming events. She emphasized the free localized CME events in Philadelphia and Pottsville ahead of license renewal. District 4 has several social events in the works, including a Saturday family cinema event, a trip to a hockey game in early 2019, and the third annual, 8-hour CME event in February.  The events are currently set to be free to POMA members. Stay tuned for more information all the upcoming events.

District 4 will next meet on Wednesday, Sept. 19th at Furia at Brew Brothers in Pittson, PA.
