About the Series:  According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's 2020 The State of Our Health report, substance use is one of the biggest challenges Pennsylvania faces, with opioids being the most pressing issue. This online education series examines many of the fundamental aspects of substance use disorder (SUD), drug classifications and treatment modalities. It also looks at SUD and special populations of pregnant patients, children and adolescents, the elderly and healthcare personnel. Family impact and social stigmas will be discussed, as well as prevention strategies and safe prescribing habits.

The POMA SUD Education Series was developed by POMA's Substance Use Disorder Education Task Force which is chaired by Eric Milie, DO. Members include: Karen Arscott, DO; Chris Carbo, DO; Ben Park, DO; and Rebecca Wolf, OMS. None of the planners for this series have any relevant financial relationships to disclose.

CME Information:  POMA is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education credits for physicians. POMA designates this program for Category 1-A AOA CME Credits and will report CME credit commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity. Some modules will qualify for the opioid or patient safety education requirement for Pennsylvania licensure. This program has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements of the AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education and the ACCME.
