District 12 Recap - July 17, 2019

POMA 12 Members gathered at the Pinecrest Country Club for a product theater and CME event on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. 

The evening commenced with a product theater presentation titled "Selecting a Treatment for Adults with T2D – Two Once Daily Therapy Options," Jeffrey Freeman, DO and a CME Presentation on the "Overview of Medical Care in Adults with Diabetes," Kyle Diller, DO PGY3.

After the presentations, members received a Legislative Update from Dr. Johnson who reviewed several current bills in the Senate and House of Representatives along with POMA’s position and the impact this legislature has on our patients and our profession. In particular, Senate Bill 25, SB 675, SB 699 and House Bill 3 were discussed. The roll of the Political Action Committee was discussed and all were encouraged to contribute to the PAC. The group was encouraged to regularly read the POMA Newsletter for updates from Andy Sandusky, POMA Executive VP Public Policy & Association Affairs.

District 12 will apply for district funding for an upcoming social event. After discussion, we wished to have the program involve and support some community programs. We will be hosting a “Dinner-Theater” night for District12 POMA members and their families. The evening will begin with dinner at Soul Platter Café, a “pay what you can” restaurant that reaches out to marginalized in the DuBois area and serves nutritious gourmet meals (volunteer staff), then the community theater production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at the nearby Reitz Theater. The date chosen was Friday, August 16, 2019. The chairperson will request the funding and will work with POMA staff to get the RSVP information out in the next week.

The group was reminded of the upcoming POFPS conference in Hershey August 8-11. Residents in attendance were also reminded of the special programming available for residents and students.

Attendees were informed of the upcoming Professional Guidance West meeting which will be September 25, 2019 in Slippery Rock, PA. Each residency program is encouraged to send two representatives to the meetings. They were also reminded that Physician Wellness Grants (formerly MHTF Grants) will again be available this fall. All residents were encouraged to consider applying for funding and watch the POMA Newsletter for details and application links.
