UPMC LItitz Residency Barnstomers Baseball Game – June 10, 2021
Due to changing guidelines that our hospital system has in place from the COVID-19 pandemic, our wellness committee elected to pursue obtaining group tickets for our local baseball team. This allowed us to come together outside of the hospital in an open area while maintaining social distance guidelines. We were able to take part in multiple games throughout the baseball game; including the favorite of all, “sling the wing” event as we competed against each other (all in good fun) as we hurled rubber chickens trying to make it into a basket. It was certainly a way to bond!
Results/Outcome Survey 1. What was the general understanding of the purpose of the project/program by participants? The purpose of the program was to encourage camaraderie outside of the work place, especially amongst the three different residency programs. It was aimed to increase communication and facilitate relationships between the residents 2. During the project/program, what tangible tools or strategies were demonstrated or taught (i.e, coping skills for wellness and life balance)? The program was aimed to help with work – life balance. 3. What word(s) best describes how you feel when you are experiencing stress or well-being imbalance? When stressed, it can be extremely overwhelming. It induces anxiety as well, as we try out best and provide the best care to our patients all while trying to care of ourselves. 4. What suggestions do you have to increase the probability of success for the project/program for other institutions? I believe this year was hard to organize an event given the ever-changing guidelines and hospital policies in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am hopeful that now with the vaccine being widely available and cases on the decline that this will help other institutions (and ours too) plan more comprehensive events aimed towards communication and team building. 5. What do you intend to do, upon returning to work, that you learned and practiced during the activity, that will improve your response to stressful situations? I think after having being able to hang out with the residents outside of work helps foster these relationships that we strive for. We have the professional connections but it allows us to make personal connections as we move forward.
